Featuring talented local artists and musicians in, typically, five to eight Broadway-style shows per year, The Little Theatre in New Smyrna Beach is a great small town theater with big theater pizzazz! It is a non-profit run by dedicated volunteers who are wholly committed to nurturing the dramatic arts within our community, there is not a bad seat in the house, the acting is superb, and it offers amazing lighting for a small venue, as well as a super friendly environment.
The Little Theatre got its start way back in 1947 with productions in the Chamber of Commerce building. As its popularity grew, The Little Theatre moved to a converted barn on an old ranch. In 1952, the former New Smyrna Beach mayor donated two beachside lots and the construction of The Little Theatre we know and love today began.
Construction was complete within a year, but that is not to say that there have not been major improvements over the years! An expansion to 250-seat capacity has taken place, as well as a 2004 renovation that resulted in a state-of-the-art facility with enhanced productions and educational programs to meet the growing demands in our community.
This year, The Little Theatre reopened with socially distanced seating for safety, and has most recently scheduled performances of the Tennessee Williams classic, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof! We are looking forward to herd immunity so we can all stampede back into The Little Theatre in New Smyrna Beach and begin, in full force once again, to enjoy the arts at their best!
