Wondering what to pack for your Florida vacation? One of the most important things to remember if you are headed to the New Smyrna Beach – Daytona Beach area is that flip flops are an essential fashion accessory…seriously. What better way to save room in your suitcase than to trade in a few sets of clunky shoes for a great pair of flip flops or sandals? Most places here are laid back, so khaki shorts, a polo shirt and boat shoes might even be considered dressy and a summer sun dress could certainly pass as the equivalent for evening wear.

If you plan a summer vacation in Central Florida, you tend to be golden with hot weather duds. If you visit from November through March, you may need a light jacket in the evenings. If it rains, it usually doesn’t rain for long, but just in case, it would be excellent if the light jacket you pack has a hood and is water repellent.

Speaking of packing wisely, remember to bring a beach bag. They are flat, so they pack well, or they can even double as a carry-on. Additionally, if you are planning to spend some glorious days basting in the sun with your toes in the sand, don’t forget your bathing suit, sunglasses and a steaming hot romance novel. You can always pick up some sunscreen and a few inexpensive beach toys for the kids when you arrive.

Usually, whatever you decide to do for fun, you can find it here. If you are adventurous, you can rent a boat. Safety gear should already be on board. Just pick up a Styrofoam cooler at a convenience store to fill with snacks a beverage or two! You can also try jet skiing, surfboarding, paddle boarding and kayaking….or take an eco-tour along the Indian River – one of the greatest estuarine ecosystems in North America.  You only need to pack yourself for that one!
