Live Like a Local!

One of the things that prompted us to move to New Smyrna Beach (which, BTW, was shortly after our first visit), was its warm and welcoming personality. Unlike our northern area of origin, where we were more likely to avoid eye-contact, we found it difficult to return all the smiles and waves we encountered along the charming streets and beaches of New Smyrna…and fair warning – all that happiness is contagious! So first things first. Living like a local includes an impenetrable sunny disposition.

There are differing theories on what causes it. It could easily be the tsunami of amazing offerings, including a calendar brimming with festivals and events around which many visitors even plan their vacations; the multitude of exciting attractions; live music emanating from friendly local hot spots; a veritable bevy of eateries from which to choose and so much more it is impossible to list.

There are mandatory happy hours, like one you can enjoy from a perch at Norwood’s Treehouse Bar – which delivers waterfront views and a 4-6 pm sunset menu that is hard to beat. Or soak up the local flavor and laid back vibe of JB’s Fish Camp. For those who prefer their cocktails mixed with a little more adventure…tucked away upstairs in historic Flagler Tavern you will discover an actual speakeasy complete with Prohibition-era décor, smooth bourbon flowing and a balcony overlooking lively Flagler Avenue.

It is also fun to drive on our beaches or, if you’re looking for a quiet walk on one of the most pristine portions of New Smyrna Beach, guests of The Sandpiper can simply walk out their door to dig their toes in the sand. There are art galleries, quaint boutiques for antiquing, historical haunts and nature parks for exploring. We fish, we kayak, we paddleboard. It is simply impossible to become bored here.

And if you decide that you just can’t bear to leave New Smyrna Beach, as is often the case – don’t! The Sandpiper luxury ocean view condos offer stays from four days to four months (or longer). So, you – my friends – just go ahead and do you!
